Sutitr : Disability of urban environment!

Please wait for a second! I know you are in hurry, ascending the stairs, but please wait for a second! Please come down, I need to talk to you. I want to tell you something. Before the last step (I’m talking about the 27th of Khordad-2007/5/17-the future Presidential Election) which can be the first step for you.

And I dreamt …

I saw in a dream that I was invited to a meeting. You were there too. You were supposed to become the president. There were some other young people there, too and there was a fervid debate about civil rights. You had a laptop and you were afraid to forget about their demands after the 27th of Khordad the Election, so you saved whatever they said on your laptop.

The third generations demanded a free society to live. They talked a lot about whether they should have Hejab or not , whether they can laugh or not and about first, second and third generation, etc. Then they looked at me and I looked at them. I was on my own chair and they sat on your chairs as guests.

They asked: which generation do you belong to?

I answered: I don’t know, I didn’t witness revolution or war. May be I’m the Third.

They said: What kind of third generation are you, have you nothing to demand!?

I answered: Perhaps I’m a third generation with special needs.

They said: In this way, you may divert the discussion trend!

And they didn’t let you to save my needs. My heart broke. I want to tell you that I know what a pleasure is to have a web log in the virtual network. I know that the censorship of masterpiece works of art will ruin those works; I know … I understand … But my problem was something else, I was censored, myself. I was censored in every parts of this city! … Disability of urban environment!

I saw a dream …

They didn’t let me to breathe a word. You provoked. Deleting their all demands, you gave me the mike and told me: “I’ve made a file under the name of civil rights of a girl who sat on her own chair”.

And I said: Hello Mr. President, I live on wheelchair. I have a lot of friends who live on wheelchair too. And some other friends who use walking sticks. Some of them are blind, some deaf and …. Mr. President, we didn’t have been anything until last year. But suddenly after a long time on July of 2004 we got a lot of things. At last the parliament’s member legislate our 16 clauses Act under the title of “Comprehensive Act of Protection of Disabled Rights”. Thence we feel our rights. All our dreams will be fulfilled with that Act. And the first important thing mentioned there, is about our rights as citizens as others.

If these dreams come true in real life (urban environments: buildings, streets, etc) then our world could change to utopia. Stairs would not be our nightmare any more and we may have job opportunity just like other people. Thence we will not be questioned about what we don’t have as handicapped. And at last someone may ask about what we have (talents, education and abilities). Then sidewalks will widen and there would be no reason for anyone to change his or her way facing our disability.

Public transportation systems may dedicate a specific place for us and in this way we can live and die just like ordinary prestigious citizens…!

Mr. President, I told you whatever I wished and you told me: “is this whatever you wish?!”

I can’t exactly remember, but some people brought ballot-boxes and suddenly I awoke.

I’m depressed from that day. I told you everything on that unforgettable dream. The only thing I forgot about to tell you was that: it is about a year of that passed 16 clauses Act and I’m afraid whether that Act sank into oblivion or not?

Mr. President!

Before passing the last stage of the Election, don’t forget that I’m a girl of third generation with specific needs on a wheelchair.
